Al Khuzairie Ali stands out amongst his peers by virtue of his chosen medium, ceramics, and the ways in which moulds, paints, and fires his works to life. His skill stems from a strategic alignment with one of the country’s leading proponents of the medium, Umibaizurah Mahir, who played mentor to this Malaysian Emerging Artist Award recipient for many years.
However, the Universiti Teknologi MARA graduate’s own dabblings in this medium diverge from his mentor’s in terms of subject matter. Masculine and more rugged, his science fiction-inspired works are bold apparitions of his own male identity and comments on our technologically induced existence.
